Staircase to the Moon

Staircase to the Moon is a spectacular natural phenomenon which occurs every year between March and November along the Kimberley and Pilbara coastlines. Spectators are treated to a mesmerising optical illusion which takes place when the full moon rises over the exposed mudflats at low tide, creating the appearance of a stairway leading up to the moon.

Shinju Matsuri, the Festival of the Pearl,  celebrates the diverse cultural heritage of the Broome and surrounding Kimberly region, which was enriched by the boom in the Broome pearl industry in the late 1800’s..

The Shinju Matsuri Festival unites the heritage and culture of the local Aboriginal community with that of the Japanese, Chinese, Malay, Koepangers, Filipino and Europeans. This diversity is celebrated through an array of elaborate, colourful events ranging from Mardi Gras to a sunset long table dinner along the famous Cable Beach.
